Twas the night before Christmas - car style

I found this here and figured I might as well put it up:

Twas the night before Christmas and all through the garage
Not a car was stirring, not even a Dodge
The tyres were hung by the rafters with care
In hopes that Ace Nicholas would fill them with air.

The Volkswagons were parked all snug in their stalls
With visions of winning Indy dreamed by them all.
And Opel in her mag wheels and I in my slicks
Had just zoomed in from a drag in the sticks.

When out on the track, there arose such a roar
I started my engine and yearned to learn more.
Over to the door I zoomed like a flash,
Narrowly missing a Mercedes and avoiding a crash.

The moon over the top of the newly built track
Seemed to be beckoning old race cars back.
When what to my wandering headlights appeared afar
But a souped-up midget and eight other race cars.

With a little old driver so shifty and quick
I knew in a moment it must be "Leadfoot Nick."
Faster than rockets toward us they roared
Recognising them, my timing just soared.

There was Nitro, and Speedy, and Smokey, and Slick
Even Reckless, and Loser, and Pokey, and Brick.
Down through the chute, narrowly missing the wall
Roar away, roar away, now roar away all.

So on through the straight over asphalt they flew
With a midget full of goodies, and Ace Nicholas too.
And then between pingings, I heard in the back
The throaty sound of the whole wild pack.

As I turned down my lights and squeeled around
In came Ace Nicholas wearing a frown.
His jumpsuit was silver with a permanent crease
But lo there were stains from oil and grease.

A string of parts was hung round his waist
The tools he carried showed he had taste.
His boots were black hightops, his gloves of red leather,
And lo and behold he stepped light as a feather.

His gaze was real straight, his arms quite hairy
A scar on his cheek shown red like a berry.
A big ole cigar was clamped tight in his jaw
He just didn't believe in the "No Smoking Law."

A stubble of growth quite covered his chin
But what a man and what a grin.
He was skinny and thin and really quite nice
Yet somehow I knew he could grip like a vice.

He bellowed and cussed but was quick to do work
He tuned all the cars including the "Merc."
Grabbing his creeper and stowing his tools
Boy Oh Boy! Did he look cool!

He honked to his buddies, to the engine gave gas
And away they all peeled each trying to pass.
And I heard him shout as he set the pace
Merry Christmas you all and have a good race!

The Trifecta- The 2011 Awards Banquet

Greetings, race fans. Tonight, we will be feasting on roast duck washed down with your choice of Schlitz or Coca Cola while we hand out the annual awards.

First some secondary awards:

The "How Low Can You Go" Award- this award goes to Tez for posting the most pathetic score of the year, 102. Tez's last minute switch to McDowell in the Cup race at Homestead assured him of the triple digit score he was looking for.

The "Absolute Perfection" Award- this award goes to Kristen for posting the only perfect score of the season.

The "Methinks the Lady Doth Protest Too Much" Award- this award goes to Dwindy for complaining how he didn't stand a chance of winning a championship without a NASCAR type points system. He even wrote a blog about it.

And now for the big trophy-

The Coveted Triple Lug Nut Trophy goes to Dwindy. Despite his protestations to the contrary, Dwindy utterly dominated the stats on his way to 10 wins.

The Final Overall Standings:

1. dwindy 10
2. Hanny 4
3. cr 4
4. SB 4
5. jon 4
6. Tez 3
7. moseby 2
8. kristen 1

That's it for this year. The bar is open, and Dwindy is picking up the tab.
See you next year!!!

The Trifecta- It All Comes Down To This Edition

Greetings, race fans and welcome to the final Trifecta of the 2011 season. NASCAR has finally gotten what it wanted when they came up with the Chase; unfortunately for the Trifecta, there's no such drama here. Dwindy seized control of the standings early in the season (despite his protestations that he didn't have a chance) and claimed the Coveted Triple Lug Nut Trophy in mid October.

We still have a three way tie between Tez, Hanny, and Dwindy for the most pathetic score of the season- 68. Again, if you would like to go for that trophy, you may only use ONE start and park (or wreck) driver.

This week's line up: jon moseby Hanny Dwindy SB CR tez kristen

This weeks races:

1.) The NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Race, Friday November 18; green flag drops at 8:18pm ET (entry list)

2.) The NASCAR Nationwide Series Race, Saturday November 19; green flag drops at 4:45pm ET (entry list)

3.) The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Race, Sunday November 20; green flag drops at 3:15pm ET.

There you have it. Please check the entry lists for Trucks and Nationwide to make sure that your driver pick IS racing this weekend.

Good luck, and let's go racing!!!

This week's races:

1.) The NASCAR Nationwide Series race from Phoenix, Saturday November 12; green flag drops at 3:45pm ET (entry list)

The Trifecta- The Last Glimmer of Hope Edition

Greetings, race fans. We're a little later than usual getting this posted due to equipment upgrades(the Beagle got a new laptop, and we've been transferring files all day).

It's Trifecta time again, and time to see if anyone can rain on Dwindy's parade(we've got a 60% chance of severe thunderstorms here throughout the weekend).

Here's the scoop. Right now, Dwindy leads the chase for the Coveted Triple Lug Nut Trophy with 9 wins. In addition to that, he also leads the pack with 25 first place picks.

With 6 races left in the Trifecta season, Hanny, CR, SB, and Tez still have a shot at the title; however, it will take a run on the Trifecta that will make Jimmie's five straight championships look like a walk in the park. One of the aforementioned players will need to sweep the remaining 6 Trifectas, and either surpass Dwindy in first place picks OR win one week with a perfect score.

The Trifecta- Back So Soon Edition

Greetings, race fans. Thanks to a 2 day delay at Atlanta, we are back. This weekend is a light schedule with races in Nationwide, Sprint Cup, and F1.

The overall standings in the Chase for the Coveted Triple Lug Nut Trophy (otherwise known as the Dwindy report) are as follows:

PLAYER WINS PERFECT 1ST 2ND 3RD
dwindy 9 0 23 8 11

cr 3 0 14 13 5

moseby 2 0 9 11 4
jon 2 0 7 7 8
kristen 1 1 9 9 4
Tez 1 0 12 9 2

Looks like several players are making gains against Dwindy in the stats but not in wins. There are still 10 more race weekends to work on that.

This week's starting lineup-
1 moseby 2 tez 3 CR 4 SB 5 Dwindy 6 kristen 7 jon 8 Hanny

The Trifecta- Give Me Your Tired, Your Poor, Your One-Liners Edition

Greetings, race fans! Time once again for the Trifecta. This week sees all three NASCAR series in action as well as IndyCar.

But first, the Beagle needs your help. Our church's puppet ministry is doing a show September 11. One of our acts is a Carnac the Magnificent type routine called The Great Paulini. Paulini (who is in 5th grade) needs new jokes (Hanny already provided us with several good ones via Facebook). Paulini's sidekick is an 8' anaconda puppet who goes into violent convulsions at the mere mention of Adam & Eve, the Garden of Eden, apples, or St. Patrick (paging Dr. Valus). So this week- along with your driver picks- hit me with your best question and answer type jokes- NO POLITICS PLEASE .

Example: The answer is Joan of Arc. The question is "What was the name of Noah's wife?"

Now back to business:

This week's lineup(along with last week's final points):
Dwindy 8
SB 18
jon 20
moseby 20
tez 22
Hanny 24
CR 27
kristen 36

This week's races:

1.) The NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race from Atlanta, Friday September 2; green flag drops at 8:19pm ET (entry list)

2.) The NASCAR Nationwide Series race from Atlanta, Saturday September 3; green flag drops at 7:46pm ET (entry list)

3.) The IndyCar Baltimore Grand Prix, Sunday September 4; green flag drops at 2:45pm ET.

4.) The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race from Atlanta, Sunday September 4; green flag drops at 7:46pm ET.

There you have it.

There is still plenty of racing left on the Trifecta schedule for someone to catch Dwindy.

The case for spell check in Major League Baseball

The Dwindy Report...

...otherwise known as the overall standings in the chase for the coveted Triple Lug Nut trophy.

Straight from the spread sheet:

PLAYER WINS PERFECT 1ST 2ND 3RD
dwindy 7 0 19 7 10

cr 3 0 12 10 3

Hanny 2 0 13 10 3

kristen 1 1 8 8 4

Tez 1 0 9 7 1

SB 1 0 7 12 8

moseby 1 0 7 7 4

jon 1 0 3 6 8

There are 14 races left in the Trifecta season, so it's still anybody's game. Dwindy's strength lies not in the number of wins he has racked up- which is impressive- but rather in his total domination of the statistics. Should the Chase for the Coveted Triple Lug Nut Trophy come down to a tie breaker, Dwindy has the upper hand. The only current exception to that would be Kristen. Should she and Dwindy be tied for wins at the end of the season, her perfect score trumps his domination of the statistics.

Temporary Trifecta...unless SB doesn't post one.

Not entirely sure where our resident host is...so I'll have to make up an excuse; she's waiting in line for the new 'Harry Potter' movie so it's up to her whether or not this counts :P

If SB decides to post one, that shall take precedence over this...so check here more than usual!

We've got all three NASCAR series in action, with the Nationwides going first on Saturday afternoon, followed by the Trucks that evening and then, I shall guess based on history, the snoozefest that is a Cup race at Loudon.

And, in case one series doesn't take your fancy this week, the Moto GP guys are in Germany. It goes early Sunday morning (for us on the West Coast at any rate) with, I presume, a delayed broadcast by Speed showing it after lunchtime. I'll put the points standings up for it as well since I doubt any of us are familiar with them...me included.

1 - Nationwide at Loudon; 3:30pm EST Saturday (entry list)

2 - Trucks at Iowa; 8pm EST Saturday (entry list)

3 - Moto GP at Germany; 8am EST Sunday (entry list) (points standings)

4 - Cup at Loudon; 1pm EST Sunday (entry list)

Hmm...looks like the order for any tiebreakers is as follows: Kristen (with the first 'pefecta' this season I believe), CR, Hanny, Moseby, SB, Dwindy, Tez and Jon...with anyone else welcome to give it a bash.

Usual trifecta rules apply of course :)

The Trifecta- When Irish Eyes Are Smiling Edition

Greetings race fans. This week, the Trifecta takes us to the Irish Hills of Michigan for Nationwide and Sprint Cup action, while the IndyCar boys and girls are living it up on beer and brats in Milwaukee.

Before we get to the races, the Commissioner of the Trifecta has a message-

There is no truth to the rumor that Dwindy was assessed a secret fine. If that were true, then the Beagle would have had her contacts replaced by now. There is, however, buzz that a copy of Chad Knaus's book, How to Cheat and not Get Caught, is making rounds in the garage area. This is a prohibited book, and anyone caught with a copy will be dealt with severely. If you do have a copy, please leave it on the steps of the black, tan and white hauler and no questions will be asked.

This week's line up: 1 SB 2 tez 3 moseby 4 CR 5 kristen 6 jon 7 Hanny 8 Dwindy

And now for the races:

1.) The NASCAR Nationwide Series race from Michigan, Saturday June 18; green flag drops at 3:46pm ET. (entry list)

2.) The NASCAR Srint Cup Series race from Michigan, Sunday June 19; green flag drops at 1:16pm ET.

3.) The IndyCar race from Milwaukee, Sunday June 19; green flag drops at 4:00pm ET.

Good luck and let's go racing.

THe Trifecta- Dancing With The Cars Edition

Greetings, race fans. This week finds us in Texas for a little Texas Two Step with CWTS and IndyCar races, Pocono for a little Pennsylvania Polka with the Sprint Cup race, and Montreal to watch the F1 boys dance around the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve.

Some housekeeping befire we get to the races. Trifecta R&D has carefully examined Dwindy's Magic 8 ball and found it to be of standard issue with no modifications. We have also interviewed every Gypsy fortune teller in Dwindy's town and found nothing out of the ordinary. In fact, they envy his success rate for correct predictions. So, unless he is getting his information directly from the race teams, we can find nothing illegal. And Dwindy, if you do have Jimmie's horseshoe, PUT IT DOWN!!! You don't know where it's been.

IndyCar is giving us a real Texas two step this weeki, as they have divided the race into two shorter races. If you decide to choose IndyCAr as one of your races, you will pick ONE driver. You will be credited with that driver's BEST finish (Ex: Kristen picks Helio. He finishes 5th in the first race and 2nd in the second race. Kristen would be credited with the 2nd place finish). YOU MAY NOT CHANGE INDYCAR DRIVERS BETWEEN THE RACES.

Finally, Bev has withdrawn from the Trifecta. She is having trouble keeping up with everything without full internet access.

This week's line up: 1 Dwindy, 2 Hanny, 3 tez, 4 SB, 5 kristen , 6 CR, 7 jon, 8 moseby

Finally the races:

1.) The Camping World Truck Series race from Texas, Friday June 10; green flag drops at 9:19pm ET (entry list)

2.) The IndyCar race from Texas, Saturday June 11; green flag drops at 8:45pm ET.

3.) The F1 race from Montreal, Sunday June 11; green flag drops at 1:00pm ET.

4.) The Sprint Cup race from Pocono, Sunday June 11; green flag drops at 1:18pm ET.

Good luck and let's go racing.
