The 2011 Trifecta Rule Book

*****THERE ARE NO RULE CHANGES FOR 2012*****

Greetings, race fans. This time next week, we will be making our picks for the first Trifecta of the season. Before that happens, I thought it would be a good idea to post the rules so that we're all on the same page(NASCAR should be this transparent).

1.) The Trifecta will be posted sometime on Thursday with the exception of the August race at Bristol. That weekend's Trifecta will be posted on Tuesday in order to accommodate the Wednesday night Camping World Truck Series race.

2.) For the Daytona 500 Trifecta, starting order will be determined by posting order. For all other Trifectas, the previous week's finish order will determine starting order. The previous week's finish order will be posted as a part of the current week's Trifecta although it is not necessary to post in that order(Ex. You win the Daytona Trifecta, but are the last to post your picks for Phoenix- you will still be given credit for starting 1st on the spreadsheet).

3.) You will pick one driver for each race. In weeks where there are more than three races, you are free to choose any three races on the schedule.

4.) You may change drivers for a given race. Changes must be posted to the Trifecta blog no later than 30 minutes before the posted green flag start of the race.

5). On weeks where there are more than three races on the schedule, you may change races without penalty before the posted green flag start of the first scheduled race. Once the first race has started, you will still be allowed to change races; however, there will be a 5 point penalty per race change.

6.) Points are scored based on driver's finishing position(1 point for 1st, 2 for 2nd, etc.). The winner of each week's Trifecta will be the player with the lowest total score. In the event of a tie, the win will go to the player who is higher in the starting order.

7.) The winner of the coveted Triple Lug Nut Trophy will be the player with the most wins at the end of the season. In the event of a tie, the tie will be broken as follows:
  • number of perfect scores earned
  • number of 1st place drivers selected
  • number of 2nd place drivers selected
  • number of 3rd place drivers selected
If there is still a tie after going through the tie breaking procedure, duplicate trophies will be awarded.

As always, if you have any questions, just ask.

NOTE FOR 2012- If you bring a guest to the awards banquet, YOU are responsible for that person's behavior (we're still fielding complaints about Kurt's behavior at last year's banquet from the venue staff.)
