The Trifecta- Sweet Home Chicago Edition

Greetings race fans from the water logged South Plains of Texas. Yes, it is still raining. Alex paid us a visit last weekend, and now his friend is sitting on the coast sending more moisture to this part of the state. The rain did not hamper the idiot neighbors in their attempt to launch the dumpster into orbit, but once again, they were unsuccessful in their efforts. Guess we'll just have to wait until New Year's Eve.

On to the Trifecta-

This week brings us another "Build Your Own" format with races in the three NASCAR series plus F1.

The race line up:

1.) The NASCAR Nationwide race from Chicago, Friday July 9; green flag drops at 8:16pm ET (entry list).

2.) The NASCAR Sprint Cup race from Chicago, Saturday July 10; green flag drops at 7:46pm ET (entry list)

3.) The F1 British Grand Prix, Sunday July 11; green flag drops at 8:00am ET (entry list)

4.) The NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race from Iowa, Sunday July 11; green flag drops at 2:17pm ET (entry list)

Remember, there is NO penalty for changing drivers within a race. There IS a 5 point penalty for changing races. The penalty is only assessed if you are changing races in order to improve your score.

Good luck, and let's go racing.

  8. After Friday practice at Silverstone, it appears that Red Bull has given Mark Webber wings...in the right way, not like in Valencia.

He finished on top by four tenths of a second on Fred Alonso with Sebby V a further two tenths behind that. Title leaders, Lewis (8th) and Jenson (13th), were 1.5 and 2.0 seconds off the pace but McLaren were trying a trick new F-duct...which I'm guessing is being taken off the car as we speak after that dismal showing, lol

Qualifying is bright and early tomorrow (5am for the West Coast).

  10. Tez... of course, McLaren could be hiding their speed. But, I feel very confident in Mark Webber @ Silverstone.

  11. well, Lewis was second fastest in the first practice...but Mark's time was a second faster in practice 2 than Seb was in practice 1 and Lewis was a few tenths off that P1 time so maaaaaaybe sandbagging. Given the amount of spins Lewis did though in P2, I'm not sure he was completely happy with the car today, lol

I think jon's figured out my strategy....avast, curses!

  12. Thanks for the info Tez!

CUP - This is the week Smoke wins on a 2 tire stop and holds off Hamlin and Kyle.

  17. Ok- preliminary standings after the Nationwide race (CR's first race is the Cup race tomorrow)

    Tez 1
    Hanny 1
    Klv 2
    dwindy1 2
    jon 7
    Athens 9
    SB 10
    moseby 21

Dwindy- you will probably want to change one of your remaining picks since you and Hanny both have Kyle and Almirola as your remaining picks.

  18. SB... DRIVER CHANGE!!! DRIVER CHANGE!!!

OK, I see that Ryan had junk tonight, and he qualified about a decade behind his boss for the Cup race. So, after further review, I'm dropping the good guy Ryan, for the new Dad, Jimmie!

  19. Got it CR. I always check the blog before I post the standings just to make sure no one threw me a curve ball.

  20. The Cup cars are not impounded, and can be adjusted on Saturday.

    ReplyDelete
  21. ok, I'll make the change...Hamlin out, Kahne in please, SB.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Ms. Speed Beagle I guess I'd best make a change...

I will take Mr. Ron Hornaday in the truck race Sunday.

    Thank you very much!

  23. Red Bull lock out the front row for the fifth time this season as Vettel will lead the field off tomorrow with Webber on his diffuser. Alonso and Hamilton make up row 2 (some 6 tenths behind Vettel!) while Button had a dismal day and will start his home GP in 14th.

  24. Complete standings after one race-

    Tez 1
    Hanny 1
    Klv 2
    dwindy1 2
    jon 7
    Athens 9
    SB 10
    moseby 21
    CR 25

    ReplyDelete
  25. PReliminary standings following the Cup race (CR's 2nd race is the F1 race)

    Tez 7
    SB 13
    Athens 14
    Hanny 18
    dwindy1 19
    CR 25
    Klv 28
    moseby 30
    jon 41

  26. Don't forget-

If you have a bad finish in one race, you may drop that race and pick a driver in the remaining race. There will be a 5 point penalty for doing so.

    ReplyDelete
  27. you have no idea how relieved I am that I didn't swap to Jimmie for that race, lol

    ReplyDelete
  28. Ah man...not worth the switch I am losing again!

    ReplyDelete
  29. Actually Kristen, it is. If you correctly pick the driver of the F1 race, you would have an overall total of 8 going into your final race. An Almirola win and a poor showing by Vettel would give you the win.

    ReplyDelete
  30. And with everyone having completed 2 races, the standings look like this-

    Tez 7
    SB 13
    Athens 14
    Hanny 18
    dwindy1 19
    CR 26
    Klv 28
    moseby 32
    jon 45

Tez's race day has ended, and Vettel's 7th place showing in the F1 race gives him his 2nd win of the season. Kristen- you should have made the switch.

  31. I thought I was screwed when Vettel made that early stop, but cool! :D

    ReplyDelete
  32. Gee, I missed all the racing action... but it was nice being on the river!

    Congrats to Tez!!!

    ReplyDelete
  33. I don't know what happened in the Truck Race, but judging from the standings, it wasn't pretty.

    Final standings-

    Tez 14
    SB 30
    moseby 32
    Athens 38
    dwindy1 43
    jon 45
    Hanny 46
    CR 50
    Klv 56

Congrats to Tez on his 2nd win of the season.

    ReplyDelete
  34. You go, Tez!!!

I should have gone with Schrader.lol

    ReplyDelete
  35. Nice Tez! Hey I didn't finish in last either!

    ReplyDelete
  36. Woot! Way to go Tez! Winning before the final race even...niiiiicce

SB - I hate switching around and I wouldda picked Alonso anyway since he is the only one I know in F1 so wouldnt have helped. I dont mind holding down the bottom every now and again!

    ReplyDelete
  37. I think the final score flatters me quite a bit...the Truck, F1 and Cup races were all a mixed bag (bit like a plate race, lol) and I was fortunate to pick decently :)
